Do you Flip? The New Mino HD

The new Flip MinoHD is really hot this year. Featuring the slick brushed aluminum case and larger video playback screen.

Flip is running a number of new commericials featuring the tag line "Do You Flip" with real videos of people doing things with their Flip camera.

Look, if you have had any experience with video cameras in the past and have been completely confused by all the buttons and video versions (which one is for low light versus indoor light? Who knows?), then you need to check out the Flip video camera.

Its the holiday season. My wife has probably shot about two hours of video with her Flip this week alone? Can you say that with your big, rechargeable video monster?

Also, Christmas is coming. What better present than the Flip? Why? With the economy in the toilet, the Flip is a great value for the money.

I love my Flip and it was the best gift I gave my wife last year. Check it out!

Flip Video Camera - Flip Spring

Have you seen this? Flip is getting more like iPhone everyday.

Flip Mino Camcorder, 60 Minutes (Spring Garden)

The Spring is not the new 2nd generation Flip with an increased 120 minutes of record tome. The Spring only has 60 minutes like last year's version. I asked my wife about it and she said she prefers the black Flip for right now.

But I expect to see the Spring on the streets this year. Too many people have said that the Flip, with its small size and "i" features, should have more bling and color options than when it debuted.

Look for a pink or rhinestone Flip in the coming months.

Flip Video Camera: Black Monday Specials

The Flip Video Camera is the hot item to get this Christmas. And the new 2nd Generation Flip Camera is now out on Amazon at the special price of only $89.95!

I paid much more for my Flip last year online and have been very happy with my purchase. Before I bought our Flip, my wife hated video taping anything. She could not figure out how to charge the batteries or use the camera to video anything like our kids or school events.

Now, she carries the Flip in her purse every day and downloads video regularly to her Mac without a problem. The Flip is so easy, she has been using it for work as well video taping presentations and so forth.

With this special price this week on the Flip from Amazon, everyone can get one in the stocking this Christmas!

Flip Video Camera: Common Problems

A number of readers of this site and users of the Flip Video Camera have reported small problems with the operation of their Flip. I have experienced some myself, but compared the ease of use of the Flip Camera, I can live with a few problems.

Some of the fixes are easy and others are not.

Less memory after clearing the camera

This is a common problem. Say you have used the full 60:00 on the camera. You copy your videos to your computer and check the memory. It says 59:53 or something similar. Where did those 7,8 or 10 seconds go?

A fix exists - (http://www.fixya.com/support/t434532-lost_time_inaccessible_files_flip) - the problem may be with the Windows Recycle Bin. When the camera is attached and emptied, users say the Recycle Bin may be sticking a small file on the camera's memory. Connect the Flip to the USB port on the computer, empty your computers Recycle Bin and check the Flip memory again.

Battery short life or freeze ups

This has been connected with battery quality or battery life. Make sure you use high quality new batteries with your Flip Video camera (not a battery you fished out of your kid's toys or from the back of the junk drawer!).

Upgrade the firmware

There have been small problems identified by Pure and the Flip Camera community. Upgrading the firmware is easy and should be done every time a new version comes out.

High Speed USB Required

The Flip Video Camera requires a high speed USB port on your computer. Some USB ports are slower than others so try another port on your computer if video copying is not working or crashing.

Flip Video Camera: Never record over a video!

The Flip Video Camera has a neat feature that I have not seen before on traditional tape video cameras; Protecting your videos still on the camera from being recorded over by new video.

Basically, it works like this. (Screen shots are not possible for this hint).

When you turn on the Flip Video Camera to record something, at the top of the screen you have a series of red font numbers. This number is the amount of time remaining on the Flip's internal drive.

The drive is where the videos you shoot are stored for playback. The Ultra Series Flip Camera has a 60 minute drive available.

When ever you shoot a new video, the Flip automatically appends it to the end of the drive - even if you just viewed an older video on the drive. So you can never record over your old videos.

But wait, there is more, in case you have purchased or demo'd a Flip yet.

Whenever you are not recording, you can view videos by pushing the >>> arrow key on the Flip's back cover. You can skip videos by pressing either the left or right arrow key on the control wheel on the back as well.

Each video is numerically listed, 1,2,3 etc. If there is a video you no longer wish to keep, push the trashcan icon for Delete. That space is now freed up on the Flip's hard driver.

However, if you want to keep all videos, just keep shooting! When you fill the 60 minute drive, no more recording.

For best results, remember to download videos you really want to keep to your PC or laptop. Also, if the batteries go dead in your flip, all videos are lost! No fun!

So download often and regularly!

Have fun with your Flip Video Camera and if you have not purchased yours yet, get over to Amazon and save big bucks on The Flip and Flip accessories!

Flip Video Camera: Review

I received my Flip Mino just a few weeks ago. It is a really neat camera and comes with some useful, basic accessories.

The packaging, as I noted last post, was very similar to an Apple product, such as an iPod or iPhone. Very basic, but everything practical or functional as they say in the product design world.

My Ultra Series Flip required batteries which was good for two reasons.

- I always forget to recharge my camera before I needed it. No problem with replaceable batteries.

- The batteries were AA; not some expensive, hard to find lithium ion or what not..

Once installed, I took some basic video and then went on to the real test.. I let my 9 and 6 year old have a go at it. No problems and great fun, if you are into shaky upside down video of our family room.

Yesterday, my wife had a presentation to make so I went along to tape her performance. Before the flip, that would mean getting down the RCA video camera, checking the batteries and video tape, finding the recharger the night before, stowing everything in a big bag and hoping to remember to bring the whole kit and kaboodle along for the ride.

With the Flip Video, I took the camera, put it in its nifty little black carrying bag and stowed it in my wife's purse.

This was my first, video outing, with the Flip Camera. I went to the back of the room where my wife was making her presentation. Turned on the camera and stared recording.

The Flip has a circular control on the back cover which allows for zooms. I zoomed the camera in to its best level and ran it non-stop for my wife's thirty-five minute presentation.

When we returned home later that day, I connected the Flip directly to our television and we watched my wife's presentation. It went great.

The only drawback was the volume level. We can correct that when we transfer the video to my wife's Mac, but otherwise, the quality was great.

The Flip is:

- easy to use. Turn it on, point, shoot.
- easy to operate. Only one or two buttons; no nighttime, lens or filter setting to worry about.
- easy to view. With the Flip or with the video cable out to a television or home computer.

Pretty neat video camera. Check out Amazon for great, new year deals today!

Friday

My Flip camera arrived this week

Sure, it was a Christmas gift for my wife, which is why it showed up on January 7th!

First, the Flip is a remarkable piece of hardware. It's like Apple made a video phone instead of a camera.

The packaging was easy to open and the instructions were only four pages, were simple to understand and straightforward.

Within five minutes I shot my first video of my children.

Why the Flip rocks:

- The video quality is as good as my $600.00 camera I also have.
- The Flip comes with a video cable which you can connect to your television and watch your videos on. One cable, hooks up in seconds.
- The Flip takes AA batteries. No recharging or extra cables.
- The Flip holds 60 minutes of video. No tapes with unknown recording time.
- The Flip records right away. None of that digital camera delay which means lost images!
- The Flip has this nifty USB interface which pops out the side of the camera and connects straight to your computer. YouTube here you come!
- The Flip can be used by anyone. My 6 and 9 year old both shot videos (after I was done playing with it).
- The sound quality was as good as any other video camera I have used.

One question: Why don't you have a Flip yet?
